Footnotes

[1] A CENTURY AGO THIS YEAR, the original O. DiBella Music opened under a 2nd Avenue apartment on Manhattan's lower east side. Now relocated to a busy T intersection in Bergenfield, New Jersey, the store is on its fourth location but just its third owner, having been handed down through three generations of the DiBella family. A hundred years of business on the edge of the New York City music scene has produced a long catalog of historical footnotes for O. DiBella, which evolved from a specialty sheet music publisher and mandolin studio to a full-line retailer, one of the oldest in the country. George Benson, a native of nearby Englewood, New Jersey , has been a frequent visitor, as were the Isley Brothers, who lived up the block. Al Di Meola taught guitar in one of O. DiBella's lesson studios while still a student at Bergenfield High School. Frank Sinatra used to perform from one of O. DiBella's sheet music titles. Ben E. King, Billy Martin, and Dizzy Gillespie have all been regulars.
