Tympanon
With Nicholas Blanton and an ever-changing cast of characters I played in a band called, Tympanon, the term that was used to indicate the dulcimer in 18th century Franche, when the instrument had a brief period of popularity in the wave of pastoralism that hit Versailles. The Bibliothèque Nationale has a manuscript called "airs propres pour le tympanon," which was our first source of repertoire. Although the band was created to recreate historic dulcimer music, it broadened its scope into various kinds of French folk music.
